Questions
Who has to be listed?
Every business that sells goods or services electronically: an online shop, an app, or a business that takes orders through Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. The listing details even ask for your social media link (E-Commerce Act 2081, Sections 4 and 5).
I already sell online. Am I late?
Existing online businesses had three months after the Act took effect, which ended on Shrawan 2, 2082. Trading without a listing is an offence under Section 21, so list now. New businesses should list before they start selling.
What must my website or page show?
Your business name, address and registration number, the office that registered you, PAN or VAT, contact details, customer service and complaints contact, whether you sell yourself or host other sellers, any special licence, and your e-commerce listing number (Section 4). Changes must be updated within 48 hours.
Do I need a company first?
You need a registered business: a company, or a proprietorship or partnership firm, with PAN or VAT. If you have neither, we register it first and file the listing straight after.
I only sell through someone else's marketplace. Do I need my own website?
The Act lets a small or household business sell through another platform instead of building its own. You still need the listing. Tell us how you sell and we check what applies to you.
