An NGO that wants foreign or government funding affiliates with the Social Welfare Council, renews that affiliation, and gets each funded project approved. Separately, IRD's exemption certificate keeps donations and grants tax-free, and must be renewed every year. We handle both.

Questions
Do we need SWC approval for foreign money?
Yes, for an NGO. Affiliate with the Council, then get each foreign-funded project approved before the money arrives (Social Welfare Act 2049, Section 16).
Is all our income tax-free with the certificate?
No. Donations and grants for your objectives are exempt; interest, rent, investment and business income stay taxable. VAT is separate.
Does the SWC affiliation need renewing?
Yes. The affiliation has to be renewed, and an NGO with a lapsed affiliation cannot get new projects approved. We track the date and file the renewal.
Does the tax exemption last for ever?
No. The IRD exemption certificate must be renewed every year, or the organisation loses the exemption until it renews. We file the renewal for you.
